Hypnotherapy
What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a physical and mental state of highly-focused concentration, creating a ‘trance-like’ state that is incredibly pleasant and enjoyable. It is a bit like day-dreaming or like when we are just dropping off to sleep; neither awake nor asleep. Meditation is also a similar state of altered consciousness.

Does hypnosis work for everyone?

Around 90% of people can be hypnotised and those who cannot are often those patients where hypnosis is inadvisable. This is in conditions such as in chronic depression, psychotic illness and in those patients under the influence of drugs or alcohol. And remember too, no-one can be hypnotised against their will; you are working in a partnership with your therapist.

Will I go to sleep?

You will drift off into trance, but hypnosis is not sleep – it’s what we call ‘sleep-like’. The best place for change to take place.

Will I lose control?

No. You are in control all of the time. You are like the driver of a car and the therapist is the navigator. Because you are in control, so you can, eventually, control your symptoms, your goals and your life.

What is hypnotherapy?

Clinical hypnotherapy uses certain techniques, assisted by a state of physical and mental relaxation. Suggestions are made in therapy, so that the patient can take control of their condition and effect a change.
